Atrophy In The Key Of Dreaming Book is a realtime music-video work that investigates the sound of wisdom. It creates music from stored knowledge in the form of books, pages, words, shelves, libraries. The microscopic sounds of letters, words, pages and books swarm with gentle quietness through eerily quiet shelves, libraries and archive.
The work also explores the chasm between static, secure physical knowledge on one side, and the endless, restless torrent of digital information on the other: The swarms are haunted by ghosts of electric static.
Here is a making-of video explaining how it was created:
The project was created and filmed in libraries in Rome, Italy, september 2017. The project was funded by NOPA, TONO and Bergen Kommune. Extra thanks to the team of Circolo Scandinavo and Pia at Villa Lante for library assistance.
